SPOTLIGHT

Chris Neufeld

After graduating from Cal Poly, Chris went to work at Santa Anita in Arcadia, where he started in sales and eventually became the Vice President of Marketing. After that, he worked at Bay Meadows in San Mateo before joining the hearth industry. But about 30 years ago, he started consulting for Hal Larson (the Founder of Blaze King), and he’s been in the industry ever since.

When asked what guidance he would give others in the industry, Chris offered the following advice: “
A few years ago, I was privileged and honored to sit with one of the most influential leaders in our industry. He suggested that it was vital for happiness to find a balance between work and personal life. He asked me if I had found that balance, and I responded, ‘Yes, when the captain announces we are now at 30,000 feet.’ I am still seeking that balance. I would echo his observation with anyone who shares the immense work responsibilities that come with hard work and dedication to the job. I will note, Alan Murphy, my boss and president of the company, continually encourages me to take more personal time, and for that I am very appreciative.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys spending time with his family. He’s been married to his wife, Carolyn, for 41 years, and they have two sons, who now have families of their own.
“We cannot get enough time with our adorable grandchildren,” Chris said. In addition, Chris is an avid hunter and fisherman who loves the great outdoors. He’s also a safety range officer at a gun range near his home, and he enjoys teaching others how to safely handle firearms and improve their shooting skills.

In short, Chris’s undying commitment and unparalleled knowledge make him an incredible industry asset and an exceptional
contributor to The Fire Time Magazine. Thanks for all the hard work you’ve put into this publication, Chris—our readers truly appreciate it!
