The National Fireplace Institute’s (NFI) new Comprehensive Training Program is a robust, structured educational pathway designed to enhance and complement real-world, on-the-job training. Developed specifically for fireplace and hearth professionals, this program offers a deep dive into the essential knowledge and skills required for safe, efficient, and code-compliant installation and service. The overall goal of the program is to guide individuals with little or no experience to become NFI certified.

At the heart of the program is the Core Knowledge module, which is the foundational component for all participants. This portion of the training covers key industry concepts, safety protocols, product components, building codes, combustion principles, and ventilation fundamentals—laying the groundwork for more advanced learning.

Following Core Knowledge, participants can select a specialized track based on their preferred fuel type: gas, wood, or pellet. Each track includes over 30 hours of expert-led instruction, combining theoretical lessons with real-world applications. These sessions delve into fuel-specific system components, appliance selection, installation procedures, troubleshooting, maintenance, and relevant safety and performance standards.

Throughout the program, learners benefit from access to experienced instructors, up-to-date technical materials, and interactive learning experiences that bridge classroom knowledge with hands-on practice. This integration ensures that participants are not only prepared for NFI certification exams but are also equipped to excel in the field and meet the evolving needs of the hearth industry.

Don’t let your education stop here—continuing to learn is essential for maintaining the certification you’ve worked hard to achieve. NFI offers excellent tools and resources to help you earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and stay up-to-date in the industry.

Whether you’re new to the trade or seeking to advance your expertise, the NFI Comprehensive Training Program is a valuable step toward professional growth, improved safety, and long-term success.  For more information or to purchase, click here.
