Kenneth Walker
Kenneth has been an integral part of the hearth industry since 2010. Like many others, he found his way here by accident. After earning a degree in Landscape Horticulture from Auburn University, Kenneth joined the Alabama National Guard, where he served with dedication, including a nine-month deployment to Qatar. Upon returning home, he began working at Southern Hearth and Grills in Huntsville, Alabama—a business owned by his soon-to-be father-in-law. Starting in the warehouse with minimal direction, Kenneth quickly moved to the sales floor, and he eventually became the store manager.
Kenneth’s career took an unexpected turn when he was approached to become an independent sales representative for Valor Fireplaces, Blaze King Stoves, and Hearth Appliance Sales. Though he wasn’t looking for a new opportunity, the chance to represent these premium brands was one he couldn’t pass up. Since then, he has expanded his portfolio to include companies like The Vulcan Group, JJ George, Amantii, and Ironhaus, building a successful career as a trusted independent representative serving the Deep South and beyond.
When asked what advice he would give to others in the industry, Kenneth expressed both respect for the past and optimism for the future. “Many of the people who founded this industry are nearing retirement. We need to be respectful of their knowledge and experience and try to hold on to it while they are with us, while also looking to the future,” he said. “While we face many challenges as an industry, I think the future is bright for those who want to grow within it.”
Outside of work, Kenneth enjoys spending time outdoors with his family. He and his son have backpacked parts of the Appalachian Trail, the Sierras, Catalina Island, and even Machu Picchu in Peru. Traveling is a family passion, and Kenneth and his wife also share a love of history.
In short, Kenneth’s journey from warehouse worker to independent sales representative reflects his dedication, curiosity, and passion for the hearth industry. Thanks for sharing your story, Kenneth. The entire Fire Time Network appreciates your insights and leadership!
